Tennis diva Maria Sharapova will be gracing the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix with her presence for the first time in 2012. The Russian has affirmed to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) that she will be participating in the world class tournament in the Porsche Arena from 21 to 29 April next year. With the superstar from Russia in the line-up, it means all the world’s Top 10 players will be competing in the long-standing tournament in Stuttgart.The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, which has only recently been voted by the players as their favourite tournament of the year, will once again feature a Grand Slam calibre field and will again be one of the most attractive tournaments on the WTA Tour in 2012. “We’ll be able to present our spectators with the world’s crème de la crème. That all the top 10 have decided to enter the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a big sign of confidence in the tournament and Porsche generally,” said Tournament Director Markus Günthardt.
Heading the entry list for the Stuttgart tournament is the Dane Caroline Wozniacki, the current world No. 1. The Czech Petra Kvitova (No. 2) is the year’s most improved player having won Wimbledon and the WTA Championships. Victoria Azarenka (Belarus/No. 3) claimed the titles this year in Miami and Marbella. Russian Maria Sharapova (No. 4) will celebrate her eagerly awaited premiere at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Others entered for the 740,000 dollar tournament are Li Na (China/No. 5), Samantha Stosur (Australia/No. 6), Vera Zvonareva (Russia/No. 7), Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland/No. 8), Marion Bartoli (France/No. 9) and Andrea Petkovic, who is the top ranked German at No. 10.
